The TurboTax Help How do I upload a CSV file of my crypto transactions? states:
In TurboTax Online, enter 'cryptocurrency' in the search magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Then select 'Jump to cryptocurrency'.
This tax year introduces a new IRS tax form 1099-DA Digital Asset Proceeds From Broker Transactions. IRS Form 1099-DA will be used by brokers to report proceeds from (and in some cases, basis for) digital asset dispositions to you and the IRS.
You mention the online version. What about on the desktop software? I keep running into it wanting me to add every individual transaction which will not be possible. I need to be able to upload from CSV.
The TurboTax Help How do I upload a CSV file of my crypto transactions? states:
TurboTax Desktop
Entering your crypto gain/loss via CSV is only available in TurboTax Desktop Premier and TurboTax Desktop Home & Business. TurboTax only supports the gain/loss CSV format.
I have Premier. When I click FILE > IMPORT, my only options are:
From TXF Files
From Financial Institution
Desktop uses .txf. You can create a .txf file from your .csv. First, see if your broker offers a .txf file. If not, here are other options:
When will the import crypto function be available for turboTax desktop premier
Currently, TurboTax supports the manual entry of IRS Form 1099-DA. We are in the process of enhancing our CSV import and upload features to make this process more seamless.
Timeline: We expect the new CSV import functionality to be available soon. Please note that this is an estimated target as we finalize the experience.
If you are ready to file now, you can still enter your information manually. Otherwise, thank you for your patience while we get these automated tools ready for you!
@CatinaT1 When is soon for the import tools to be ready for crypto? Its already Feb 19th and there are no such tools. I am using TurboTax Premier Desktop.
We do not have a concrete date.
Can you confirm that this feature will be available with sufficient time before April 15, 2026, to allow us to file?
Last update we heard was that it would be available Online on or around 3/18/2026.
To clarify, does this update apply to TurboTax Desktop? I need to know if CSV imports for crypto transactions will be supported in TurboTax Desktop for this tax year
Do you know if this applies to TurboTax Desktop also?
This will apply to both. Currently on desktop you should be able to convert their CSV to a .txf file and upload it.
