What sale category is a short term capital loss? i don't have a 1099-B

You won't need the sales category if you select that you did not receive a 1099-B.  Instead you will enter the purchase date, sales date, proceeds, and description.

If you did receive a 1099-B, but the sales category is not reported, use code C (short-term, not reported)
