What if I earned a very small amount of dividends but did not get a 1099 div form?

You would enter the amount in the Dividend Income section of your return by choosing to type in the information yourself.  You will enter the payer name and the dividend you received as if it were reported in box 1a of Form 1099-DIV.  The payer of the dividends may not have sent you a Form 1099-DIV because they are not required to send it if the dividend is less than $10.  However, you are still required to report it on your return.

Use the following steps to go to that section of your return:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “1099-DIV” and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-DIV
  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-DIV” link
