We've owned a home in florida, since 2015, that has been rented full time. I don't believe we've had to file a FL return in the past years but want to be sure.

You're okay, Florida does not have income tax so you do not need to file a return for rental income as long as you reside in Florida.

If you reside in another state that does have income tax, then that resident state would be entitled to taxes of that income.
