Hey All,
So I sold AAPL then bought VGT and DIA less than 30days after the sale. AAPL is included in these funds. Does that mean I’ve accidentally violated the Wash Sale Rule?
Thanks for reading

a wash sale occurs when there is a loss on sale and then substantially identical securities are bought within the wash sale period. so are VGT and DIA substantially identical? I am not the IRS or the courts. but I would say no.
even different classes of the same stock may not be substantially identical.
True on DIA and VGT but AAPL is inside both of those funds. So it’s like I did indeed buy back AAPL? That’s my concern/wonder.
Apple stock and mutual funds that have APPLE in their portfolio are NOT the same and you do NOT have a wash sale issue.
😄I hope you’re right
