No, those are not the same.   I think you are mixing up a Form 1099-DIV with a 1099-MISC.

Ordinary dividends, capital gains distributions, etc. are reported on a 1099-DIV.    Do you have a 1099-DIV?   Don't enter a 1099-DIV in the 1099-MISC interview.   Or if your form from American Century doesn't say "1099-DIV" it could be a proprietary form such as a "consolidated brokerage statement" rather than a separate 1099-DIV.

In Online TurboTax here is a shortcut to get to the 1099-DIV interview to enter dividend income:

  • Open your return ("Take me to my return.")
  • Then click on the Search link in the top right corner.
  • Enter 1099-DIV without quotes, and click the magnifying glass.
  • Choose Jump to 1099-DIV.
  • Next screen asks:  "Did you receive any dividend income?"
