RRSP are taxed like ordinary income in the US.  You would first report this on your federal return and then the information will flow to your California return without you having to do anything. Here is the process.

  1. Log into your account
  2. Select Wages and income>other income
  3. Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099>start
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to Other Reportable Income
  5. Other taxable income, answer yes
  6. Then give a brief description of the income.  In this case, you will say RRSP Pension income and then the amount.
  7. Once this is reported, this amount will be included in the Federal AGI amount in Line 13 in your California 540 return.

Hey, DaveF1006

Thanks a lot for your responses !

On Federal tax filing, the RRSP tax(25%) paid to Canada can be claimed as foreign tax credits (as discussed in another thread). Can this be claimed as foreign tax credits in California tax filing as well ?

No. the foreign tax credit cannot be claimed in California.  Only on the federal level.
