Suspended Rental Passive Losses

I entered prior year suspended losses from rental property and it is reflected on schedule E as a 465(d) carryover as an additional expense. Form 8582 shows this amount in the current year loss amount but also shows in the prior year suspended losses, which appears to double count the prior year suspended losses. How are suspended losses to be entered?

Did you transfer the file from last year?  If so, the suspended losses would automatically carry over and you would not enter it again.

A 465 carryover seems to indicate you entered it as an "At Risk" carryover, which is unlikely that is correct, so you may have entered it in the wrong place.   Most likely it is a "passive loss" carryover, not an "At Risk" carryover.

As for your question for how to correctly enter it, I am unsure.  But as I said, (1) if you transferred the file from last year you would NOT enter it because it would automatically carry over, and (2) you probably need to enter it as a "Passive" loss carryover, not an "At Risk" loss.
