Sale of Rental Dwelling

Received reply from LENAH- deleted browsing history and cookies as requested. However, when I search for home sale or rental dwelling sale all it does is take me to the turbotax questions and answers- there is no "jump" to click on to take me to the proper place

I have attached a picture of the Jump to home sale screen I was referring to. Please see below.

Please respond back if this does not take you to the correct screen. I have attached a picture below of the next screen you should get to, Sold a Home

Why am I having such a problem with this??  I have used TurboTax for at least 7-8 years with no problems.

Reason for my reply is that I cannot locate any Jump To screen.  How do I get to it??  Every time I put something in search all that comes up is the Turbo Tax web sites with answers to questions people have posed.

Thanks for your help.

If you sold your primary personal residence and you lived in and owned the home for at least two years in the five year period on the date of sale, you do not have to report the sale if your gains are less then the exclusion amounts of $250,000 if filing Single or $500,000 if filing Married Filing Jointly (and both lived in the home for two years).

If you had a gain greater then the exclusion amounts then you would have to report the sale. Also, if you received a Form 1099-S for the sale either with a gain or a loss, the sale has to be reported. You will need the online TurboTax Premier or Self-Employed edition to report the sale if you are using the online editions. Make sure that you indicate that you want the sale of the home reported on your tax return.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income
  • On Sale of Home (gain or loss), click the start or update button

Or enter sale of home in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to sale of home

This is a single family dwelling rental property that we sold not our primary residence

Still need my original question answered about how to access the jump to screen

Right...Should have looked further up this thread.  Sorry.

For a rental property sale there is a keyword to use in the Search box.

Enter sale of rental property

Sale of Rental Dwelling

If this was an active rental in the year of sale then you report the sale in the Asset section of the Sch E entry screens.  Do not also enter it in the sale of business property later in the interview.
