Rental unit mortgage interest and property tax

I have a rental unit as part of my house.  I've entered my total mortgage interest and property taxes to be allocated based on size.

I don't think I should enter these amounts AGAIN on the main section, since I've already gotten the deductions, but it isn't clear.  This may just be a suggestion to you to make this clearer.

Yes. Since you entered the total amount of your mortgage interest and property tax in the rental property section and you chose the option for Turbo Tax to allocate the expenses between the rental property and the itemized deductions, you dont enter anything in the itemized deduction section for these expenses.

Thanks.  Would be nice if Turbotax were more clear about this, or showed me on the deduction section that it had already taken those into account.

You are welcome. You can look at the total amount of your itemized deductions in Turbo Tax and that would be a way for you to see that the remaining expense amounts are being claimed as itemized deductions.

To review your total itemized deductions:
• Log in to your Turbo Tax account
• click on "take me to my return"
• click on the "federal taxes" tab
• click on "deductions and credits"
• scroll down to the bottom and choose "done"
Then you will come to a page that has the standard/itemized summary and you should see the total amount of itemized deductions here.
