If I claim rent and I pay a friend rent in her condo, does she have to claim this on her taxes?

If you are claiming a tax deduction (or a tax credit) based on rent payments made to a friend, then your friend should report the payments as rental income on her tax returns.

 

Report the rental payments to your friend on a 1099-MISC, using Box 1.
