There is a field in the Schedule E Worksheet called "Owner-Occupied Rentals: Percentage of rental use" but Turbo Tax does not offer any way of entering or editing this field in the Schedule E interview questions.
When I get to the Federal review, it flags the field as blank and requires an answer to be entered, but I entered the wrong answer and now I can't edit it. How do I edit Schedule E Worksheet directly?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
With the online version of TurboTax you can not edit the worksheets directly. YOu'll have to work through the SCH E section of the program again, until you come to the screen that asks for the number you want to change. After you change that number, you must continue working through that property all the way to the end, to ensure that your change is "in fact" saved and used to calculate your tax liability. In short, any changes you make are not saved until you get to a screen with a DONE button on it, and you click that DONE button.
Also take note, particularly for the CD version of the program, if you edit a worksheet with an over ride, two things will happen.
1) You may not be able to e-file the return. You will have to print, sign and mail it to the IRS (and your state if applicable).
2) You will invalidate the TurboTax 100% accuracy guarantee.
I'm having this problem too. the turbotax instructions say my days of personal use can't be more than 0 but I am renting out a vacation home that I do, indeed, use personally. why should telling the truth on this form invalidate my guarantee from TT and will my payment for TT be reduced to reflect that I can't e-file and won't have a guarantee?
Also, if I change the value to 0 it makes a huge difference in the tax refund and I don't want to get a refund I'm not entitled to.
I also entered this value incorrectly and now I can't find any place to change that value. There is no place to change that field (Line P) in the questions. Do I have to delete the rental and start over!?
@mattbklyn I am encountering this exact issue on my 2022 return. I do not see an answer on this forum -- did you find a resolution?
You can change the percentage of use by entering your nonrental use or personal use days by using the steps below.
Property Profile (TurboTax CD/Download or Rental property info (TurboTax Online)
See the image below - it will look similar in both versions
