For the question, "How many sales are on your 1099-B form," is the answer the number of different stocks you sold, or is it the number of shares you sold?

It would be the number of transactions reported on your Form 1099-B. 

 

Typically that would be the number of different stocks sold, unless some were sold in multiple lots so that there is more than one transaction per stock.
