Federal taxes i report a capital gain of 25k (accurately reflected in turbotax), but when i get to the state tax section turbotax is saying i declared a loss of 65k?

Under the federal taxes section turbotax is accurately reporting a capital gain, but when i go to the state section, it is saying i reported a loss? What should I do? Should I email the IRS?

Some states handle capital gains differently from federal. Someone would need to look at your tax returns to know what’s going on.

IRS doesn’t handle state taxes so emailing the IRS will not help.

You can call you state tax department or TurboTax.

How do I track my state refund? has links to all the state tax websites. Look for directions on the site about how to contact someone.
