Can we still carryover any rental expenses from 2017 to 2018 even if we sold the property in 2017?

No, those expenses should have been finalized in 2017 and entered on your 2017 income tax return. The rental property was taken off your tax return in 2017 so there is no where to enter it. If you forgot to include 2017 rental expenses, your option is to amend your 2017 income tax return.
