I sold 100 shares of XYZ stock on 12/01/2018 for $12.5 per share but on 12/02/2018 I bought a January 6 $ 13.5 Call option for XYZ. Is the sale on 12/01 a wash sale?

I sold 100 shares of XYZ stock on 12/01/2018 for $12.5 per share but on 12/02/2018 I bought a January 6 $ 13.5 Call option for XYZ. Is the sale on 12/01 a wash sale?

Yes, according to the IRS, if an investor sells a stock for a loss and buys a call option (within the 31-day window) the wash sale rule is triggered.
