I live in Texas and receive oil and gas royalty income from our property in West Virginia. I have the 1099-MISC. Do I need to file a West Virginia state income tax?

Yes. Nonresidents are required to file a West Virginia income tax return when they receive gross income, which includes income from royalty interests.

Thank you. Does that make the WV tax that I must pay a deduction on my federal return? How do I know what value to enter in my federal return until I have done my WV return? But I can't do a WV return until I know my AGI on my federal return, right?
