I have some properties in Detroit for rental. One has been burned(no insurance) and some have been stolen. May I have the refund from my 2016 property tax? thank you

The management company may provide the receipt for repairing (the damage and stolen items) if it can help me to get my properties tax refund. And if my properties tax can get refund, how to apply? Thank you very much

The property tax credit that individuals may qualify for on the State of Michigan Form MI 1040-CR is only for residents that claim a homestead (pay property taxes for a home that they personally reside in). There is not a way to recoup the property tax costs of a rental property other than using it in conjunction with a Schedule E where you record the income and expenses you have related to the properties (if you meet all the requirements). This may or may not result in a refund. This depends on your overall tax situation and what you file on your return.

You may want to give the City of Detroit Property Tax at 313-224-3560 to find out if it is possible to get a refund from them for any properties you believe were levied in error when the property is not in tact.

Here's how to enter the property tax expenses into TurboTax:
