I have a 1099-misc for gas rights and it requires a "days rented at fair rental value" and "days of personal use" . what are they looking for in these fields?

The 1099-MISC should be entered as Royalty income. The questions that you are seeing are for rental income.

To enter as Royalty income, in TurboTax Online, search for 1099-MISC and click the Jump to link

  • Click the Edit pen next to your entry in the 1099-MISC Summary
  • Enter the amount that was entered in Box 1 - Rents into Box 2 - Royalties, and delete the amount in Box 1, Continue
  • for Source of 1099-MISC Income, click Investment income from property you own
  • Describe This Property
  • Follow the prompts and answer the questions as you go

That would be royalty income reported in box 2 of the 1099-MISC, whereas rental income is reported in box 1. Work through the Property Profile section again. Sounds to me like you did not change the default selection of Rental Property, to Royalty Property or payment.roylaty.png
