You'll only claim the real estate taxes once. However, if you live in half the duplex and rent the other half, then you'll divide your real estate tax figure in two, and enter one half in the rental section and the other half in the personal section. You'll then be correctly allocating the total taxes paid.

Turbo Tax allocated my real estate taxes and mortgage interest on schedule E, so I respond NO when prompted for these on schedule A,,correct?

Yes, correct. Once you've entered those amounts and the 50% allocation percentage in the rental section, TurboTax will automatically carry the 50% personal portion to Schedule A.
