Under the current tax law, rent payments are not deductible.
What you pay to rent a primary residence, 2nd home, vacation property or any other type of "personal use" property has never been deductible on a federal tax return. However, some states offer a "renter's credit" on the state return. You won't deal with that until you have completed the federal return and start your state return.
