You need to set up a rental property in the Rental Income section under Wages and Income in TurboTax. When you enter your rental income on the screen that says Rental Income, choose Other income not reported on a 1099-MISC or 1099-K, and income from barter or exchange. You can enter the rental income you received without it being reported on a Form 1099.
Thank you.
i have been using the free version of Turbo Tax, from the credit karma app I have and use. Will I be able to do as you say in your reply to my initial question on this version of what I’m using to file?
Much appreciated
No, you will be upgraded because of the required forms and schedules that must be filed with rental income. TurboTax will upgrade you automatically with TurboTax Online.
Just so I'm absolutely clear, I rent the apartment from my landlord, and, with her permission, occasionally sublet (used this time last year to travel). When I tried logging this information in myself before asking the community, there was questions such as what percentage of the property do I own etc...
The information you, and the person before provided is accurate in this case?
Thank you for the assistance.
It depends. It's important for you to know the rules on rental income if you rented less than 15 days.
Next, if you did rent more than 15 days, you will have to indicate you own the apartment to be enter the rental expenses and income, you will not enter any asset since you do not own the building or land.
NOTE: You are not required to report rental income from real estate if the days rented is less than 15 days. This will not flag your tax return for the IRS.

This is the case for me. I rented (sublet) for 90 days, and because under 200 days, and having made an income of less than $20K, Airbnb did not issue a 1099.
I hope to enter my income from Airbnb, while deducting the rent I pay my landlord, and also utilities, etc..
Im not clear on how I should do this, could you explain in more detail - why do I have to indicate I own the property - doesn't make sense to me...?
Thanks
Rental property is recorded on Sch E. If you look at the actual Sch E that goes to the IRS, there is no box for ownership. That is just a toggle for the program making sure that you have the right to claim the property income and expenses.
