How do I report debt collected for a rental property I sold in 2016 and reported to me on a 1099 Misc for 2017?

The Schedule E attached to the 1099 Misc. by the management company also shows collection expenses and fees.  The debt was collected in December 2017 from a tenant who left in 2015 owing monies.

You should report this as Schedule E income for 2017, in the Rental and Royalty interview, as you have in the past.

However, you do NOT need to set up assets for depreciation - just enter the income and expenses as shown on the Schedule E from the management company.  Next year, you can delete the Schedule E once more.
