How do I change the ownership of a 1099B account (stock sales) to be joint. Myself and spouse?

How do I go to the screen that allows me to change ownership to joint?

Go back to Wage and and Icome and revisit Investment and Savings Go through interview questions for your 1099B until you get to the part where you're asked what name the accounts are under.  Here some helpful links regarding 1099B:

I was able to import, but Turbo Tax 2025 does not ask if it is mine or Spouse' 1099B.  I tried to correct it through Edit, but there's no option to change it either.  Only way to change it seems to be updating it directly on Capital Asset Sales Worksheet selecting under the Forms.

How do I change the ownership of a 1099B account (stock sales) to be joint. Myself and spouse?

TurboTax Desktop treats imported brokerage statements as belonging to the person whose Social Security number appears on the 1099‑B. For joint accounts, the 1099‑B typically lists only one SSN (the “primary” account holder), even though the account is jointly owned. Because of that:

  • TurboTax assumes the form belongs to that person.
  • The interview often does not offer an ownership dropdown for 1099‑B forms.
  • Editing the form in the Step‑by‑Step interview usually does not reveal an ownership field.

You found the solution but I will list it anyway for your own edification.

  1. Open Capital Asset Sales Worksheet for that 1099‑B.
  2. Find the field labeled “Owner” or “Taxpayer/Spouse/Joint”.
  3. Change it to:
  • Joint (if filing MFJ and both spouses own the account), or
  • Spouse (if the 1099‑B belongs to your spouse).

This is the correct and intended method in the Desktop product.
