Hawaii:  If the rental property is generating income and is located in HI you will be required to report that rental income to HI as a nonresident

The resident state, where you live now, requires all worldwide income received to be reported on their return for the period of residency.  Therefore the rental income must be reported there as well.

On your resident return for the state where you live now you can take a credit for taxes paid to another state (on the same income).

  1. First, complete your nonresident state return
  2. Second, complete your resident state return and be sure to select credit for taxes paid to another state
  • While you are logged into your TurboTax Deluxe account:
    • State Taxes tab > Select Pennsylvania > Continue to the finish screen showing the areas of the return
    • Select Taxes & Credits
    • Follow the prompts and click the screenshots for clarity.
