forced rental for employment - then selling property

I bought a home in 2006 and it was my only property and primary residence until 2014. At that time, I took a job in another state where I was required to live in staff housing, so I rented my primary residence. I lived in staff housing until 2020 when I accepted a job in a third state, at which time I needed to purchase another home. I gave my renters noticed, did renovations, and sold in January 2021. We purchased our new home in July 2021. We don't meet the "2 of this last 5 years" rule, but what about being required to live in staff housing while at that job? We don't fit the normal situation of a rental property because we were renting out our only home. Thanks for any suggestions. I've been reading for hours and can't find anything that fits.

I think I accidentally posted in the wrong category. :( Not sure how to change it.

Sorry but you have no option but to sell the rental as a rental ... the personal exclusion will not be allowed due to the 2 of 5 year rule.
