Capital Loss Carryover from 2022 not reported in 2023

Hi,

I had a carryover capital loss of  -2, 572 on my 2022 return.

When I checked my 2023 return, I see -2,572 is not reported on the Capital Loss Carryover Schedule D. But I had  a loss of -4,065. Out of which -3000 was claimed.

Now when I am filling up 2024 return, I can only see 1065 carryover loss (4,065 - 3000). I do not see the -2, 572. How can I add  2572 (from 2022) to 1065 (from 2023) on my 2024 carryover loss?

Thanks and appreciate all the help

I have been using TurboTax Desktop - Home & Biz.

It depends. If you choose to amend the 2023 tax return to include the ($2,572) in that return, then you can use the full amount of carryover loss on your 2024 tax return. You can do that now without waiting to send in the amendment, however the amendment should follow soon.

The following links will help you amend your 2023 return to include the 2022 capital loss carryover, and provide the correct carryover for 2024.

Capital losses are limited to $3,000.

  • If you had a capital loss of &2,572 in 2022 it was used in that year.
  • That is why your tax return shows the loss on line 7 of the 2022 tax return.
  • There is nothing left to carry over.

Sorry my mistake on original question. 2572 is carryover loss on 2022.
