Can I add costs of items purchased for a rental property to my cost basis even though Ive been depreciating those same items for yrs?

Yes. The depreciation recapture is calculated separately from the capital gain.

 

What you cannot add, to your cost basis, are those items your purchased and deducted as an expense, rather than depreciating them.
