We have used TurboTax for many years and have been able to report and enter long-term gains on Schedule D, Part II, Line 10.  In past years we were able to access form 8949 to populate those entries.  This year we are unable to enter anything on Schedule D form or 8949.  On Schedule D, it implies that 8949 is needed, but nothing works!  If it matters,  TurboTax, from last year’s return, already has entered Lines 14 & 15 carryover loss.  How do I report a sale (another loss) for this year on Schedule D and/or 8949?

So that people can comment properly and tell you how to get to the investment sales interview, you would first need to state if you are using Online TurboTax or desktop software installed on your computer.  And do you have a Form 1099-B?

As a hunch, are you using desktop software and trying to do all this in Forms Mode???  If so, that can be problematic unless one is experienced with using intermediary worksheets that flow to the proper schedules and forms.   Many schedules/forms do not allow direct entry but require worksheets, then the data flows to the specific schedule/form.    Because of the complex interaction of Schedule D, Form 8949, the Form 8949 Worksheet, etc., it's recommended to use the step-by-step interview mode when entering investment sales.
