Hi, I Purchased TurboTax Premier (PC Download) from Amazon for $69.99 earlier today. I installed it and imported an old return I had also from 2019. But now, to fetch a state it is asking for $44.99? Why?
Why do I need to pay to get a state? I will mail in my California returns by physical mail.
Also to make it very clear I have not downloaded any state before. No state exists. I thought 1 state came free (EFile is a separate fee of course)
Please tell me I don't have to pay this. How do I reach TT support?

Review your order from Amazon and see what you purchased.
Did you purchase desktop software with state software included? They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose. And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state. There is an extra fee to e-file the state. You can avoid the $24.99 state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
Yes i purchased the desktop software with state included

I understand I can avoid the $24.99 efile fee. I will mail in the returns. But based on the screenshot that I posted in my original post, why do I need to pay $44.99 to even start my state return?
That just seems disingenuous. Intuit support please help! I can screenshare / share my Amazon receipt and everything. Thank you
