Desktop download software will not work with Windows 10 for 2025 returns.  But you will be able to use online software if your computer does not/cannot meet the system requirements for desktop.

I am not a new member, I am a long time Turbotax user.  However, no Turbotax for Windows 10 then bye bye Turbotax, me not going to use Turbotax online.

It will not work because Turbotax did not go to the effort to update their code to work with Windows 10 which has 23 times more users than Windows 11.  Me a 40 year Turbotax customer.  My experience is that it was easier to switch to H&R Block than to upgrade to Win 11(itself a problem) and Turbotax.  (My tax: married couple joint file, extensive stock trading, no business, no earned income, retiree income, state income tax, standard deductions.) Turbotax broke the loyalty trust and keep it simple principle hooking up exclusively to Windows 11.  Microsoft + Intuit = customer nightmare.

A TurboTax FAQ says "Intuit will restrict the installation of future (2025 and later) versions of TurboTax Desktop on Windows 10." It's not clear what "restrict the installation" means. Does it mean that you can't install it at all? We haven't gotten a clear answer. Intuit has announced that at least one of their professional products for 2025 will work in Windows 10.

looks like the wording on that FAQ has changed from "may restrict" to "will restrict"

Intuit keeps stating that Microsoft will no longer support Windows 10 after October 14, 2025.  This is not true.

Support for "critical and important security updates" will continue.  Intuit needs to provide Turbotax 2025 to its long standing and loyal customers.  See clip from Microsoft's own site on this issue.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-consumer-extended-security-updates-esu-program-33e17de9-36b3-43bb-874d-6c53d2e4bf42

Stop stating that Microsoft will not support Windows 10 after October 14, 2025...  It is a false statement.

Turbotax could not screw this Windows 10 issue up worse if it were intentional. There at lease three other federal income tax with state tax options available but Turbotax will not permit revelation on line here.

it was intentional. it's all about profits and used of money. in other words $$$.

Dear Intuit,

Add my name to the list of unhappy TTAX customers. I have been using TTax since it was first available on 5.25 inch on disks.

I have a Windows 10 PC that is not eligible for Windows 11. And from what I read about 11, I am not interested - even if my PC was upgradable.

I understand that an OS can become obsolete, but that is not the case here. As of January 2026, Windows 11 adoption in the U.S. and globally has stalled, with market share hovering around 50-53% and recently dipping.

Microsoft knows this - it is why Windows 10 security updates are free and available for at least another year. I am enrolled and have received several updates.

Windows 10 has been a popular OS, Windows 11 not so much. I understand that what Intuit has done will be necessary at some point, but now is premature.

The on-line services you offer are much more expensive then TTAX Deluxe Federal and State.

You are forcing me and other users to find alternative tax software - you are risking a significant loss of customers.

Do you really think this is a smart thing to be doing right now??

  • UPDATE:

This is the heading of a Windows 11 article in a PC Magazine email (2/2/2026):

""We Need to Improve.' Microsoft Admits Windows 11 Has Too Many Annoying Bugs""

This is one of the reasons why so many people and corporations don't want to upgrade Windows 11.

Intuit is suggesting On Line versions of Turbotax. The reviews on Amazon for Turbotax Delux 2025 are not good.

I am not upgrading a home computer just so I can run Turbo Tax. Sounds like H&R block works with Windows 10. Is there any way to transfer data from my previous Turbo Tax return to H&R Block? I could enter it manually I suppose but the carryover losses and depreciation of investment property will take some work. Are there other software options that work on windows 10.

@Bobbybuck1 Sorry----desktop download for 2025 will not run on Windows 10.   If you cannot upgrade to Windows 11, you can still use online TurboTax instead.
