Question

Will it help to get a better refund if I include my dependent daughter’s work income? She has made less than 11,500 to file her own

You cannot enter on your tax return the earned income of a dependent.

The dependent files their own tax return to report their income and indicates on their tax return that they can be claimed as a dependent.

    Income from working is only reported on the worker's own tax return, never on a parent's return, even if they are a dependent.

     

    Sometimes, if the child's only income is from investments, it can be reported on the parent's return.  That's the only time.
