Question

Why does Intuit website and service suck so bad?

I have never, in my entire life, had so many problems just buying a product from a company. All I wanted was to buy the PC version of Turbotax 2024 and download to my computer. I spent weeks trying to make this work via intuits website and customer service. There is no easy way to just buy the **bleep** product from the website. I kept getting pushed to use Turbotax online, which I have zero interest in. Over many weeks I spent hours on the phone with customer support. No luck. I finally gave up and just went to Amazon and bought the product there. Easy peezy. It says something when a company's website and hours of customer service cannot answer the simple question, how can I buy your product. If I had not been a Turbotax customer for years I would have just quit and used another product. If this happens again next year I am done with Turbotax.

    This has been available for nearly two months:

    2024 TURBOTAX

    DOWNLOAD (This requires a full PC or Mac—-cannot be used on a mobile device)

    https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

    Or--

    You can also purchase the desktop download from various retailers such as Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. etc.

    @lkflit

    Yeah, but it's actually worse for the folks who want to start with a particular version of the "Online" program.

    ____________________

    Anyhow, for navigating to the desktop software, from the main "Online" page:

    1)   you go to the top of the screen and hover over "Do it Yourself".

    then

    2)  Select "Doing taxes with Desktop software"

    ...and you're there    (my prices may be different from yours as I might have a "cookie" from Fidelity)

    Agree. I have been using this for years. This year was horrible. It’s slow. It stalls then reverts back to the homepage where it wants you to sign in. Then multiple times it wants to you buy the upgrade. However, what they don’t tell you is you don’t get the audit defense without the upgrade. There used to be a small up charge to do auto defense, and you could do multiple returns. My elderly in laws are not capable of doing their taxes, so I always do it. Now, I have to pay another $60 just to file another return. I won’t be using it next year. This is a complete rip off. Not to mention, it doesn’t prompt for tax situations. The disc version would ask if you had a student, then ask you for the various forms. This year, it asks for student, but it doesn’t ask you for the 1098T kr 1099q, I had to search for them myself in order to enter them. This is unacceptable. If I were going to do that, I may as well revert to paper.

    I have the same problem. Impossible to buy a desktop product. When you go to "Products," it simply lists everything you've ever bought from TurboTax. (By the way, I don't know why it lists the old stuff. I'm having to file back tax forms for a recently deceased family member in order to have a clear shot at filing estate taxes. However, when I tried to reinstall one of my old TTax years, I found out that Intuit does not support them and does not let the old year download the final product updates.) I think the sungularity has happened at Intuit and their AI prevents you from doing anything that requires leaving their AI, such as making a purchase.

    When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return.  You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return.
