Why do i owe tax after paying amount

I received a refund from state and owe that amount to federal

Did you pay the amount on federal 1040 line 37? OR the net amount that Turbo Tax showed you at the end? Federal and state are completely separate. They don't keep one to pay the other. At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the net federal and state combined. But that is only for your info. You will still get the full refund and need to pay a tax due.

And how did you pay it? Did you mail a check with the 1040-V voucher? Or enter your bank info for the IRS to take it out of your bank account or credit card?

depending on how you made the payment it may not be reflected in Turbotax.

To enter a 2024 extension payment in TurboTax online, follow these steps:
Sign in to TurboTax Online and navigate to Federal Taxes or Personal (for H&B/Self Employed version).
Scroll down to Deductions and Credits and click on Start or Update for Payments with Extension.
