Are you referring to the economic stimulus payment that went out?

Did you use TurboTax to file the wrong kind of tax return this year or last? TurboTax cannot prepare returns for non-resident aliens since it does not prepare Form 1040NR/NR-EZ. TurboTax can only prepare returns for US citizens and resident aliens for tax purposes." If you are indeed a non-resident alien, did you mistakenly file a regular Form 1040 instead of Form 1040NR/NR-EZ?

First, let's confirm how you are classified. When did you first come and how long have you been in the USA? What visa are you under?

I'm not a tax expert and can't help you with international filing situations, but I'm going to ask someone to assist you today in this thread. Please respond with the requested information.

@rahulrao76013 , following up from @mesquitebean questions --- what visa are you on?, When did you enter the USA and with which visa?

The reason for these questions is that if you are an exempt person ( the first five years of F-1 visa ) or a Non-Resident Alien, you needed to file your return using form 1040-NR. TurboTax does not support the preparation and/or transmission of such returns.

Otherwise i.e. as a resident or resident for tax purposes , you would file using the form 1040.

Form 1040-NR, 1040-NR-EZ are not eligible for the economic stimulus check.

So please answer the questions above, so we can help you determine if indeed you are NRA and therefore need to amend return that you have already filed ( using perhaps TurboTax )
