When can I use Turbotax to file an extension for my 2016 tax return?

That function was supposed to be working today sometime ... check back later or tomorrow.

It is now live for you to file the extension.

  • Log into your return and click the orange Take me to my return button
  • Type extension in the Search box in the top right
  • Click jump to extension and this takes you to the Need More Time to File Your Return? screen. 

Or you can use these steps:

  • Log into your return and click the orange Take me to my return button
  • Click the Federal Taxes tab and then Other Tax Situations
  • Scroll down to Other Tax Forms
  • Click Start/Revisit next to File an Extension
