The control number is an optional code on a W-2 that is mainly used for importing a W-2. As xmasbaby0 said, you can leave that field blank on your W-2.

To enter a W-2 in TurboTax Online:

1. Go to Income>Wages and Salaries from the left menu

2. Select Start/Edit next to Wages and Salaries (W-2)

3. Enter your W-2 information

If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.
