I wanted to see how I can set up my husband & I’s taxes to where less is taken out each pay period to maximize our money now & then get less of a tax return later while not owing anything. We have no dependents and both have our w-4 filled out as married.

To decrease your tax withholding and increase your take-home pay, you can adjust your Form W-4 in a few ways:

  • Step 4(b) (Deductions): Enter a specific dollar amount to indicate that you have more deductions than the standard amount. This informs your employer to withhold less tax from each paycheck. the IRS provides a withholding estimator to help you determine the appropriate settings for your situation:

Also check w4 to see if you checked "Two jobs" box. This option instructs your employer to apply tax brackets to only half of the standard deduction typically allowed for a married couple.
