Question

Turbotax has added Other income (-$68k) and Other Taxes (+$30k) to my return that I didn't enter, and it won't tell me where it came from or how to fix it!

This is crazy. Turbotax is saying I owe $63k in taxes, when it should be less than half of that. When I asked the chat, it broke it down in a way that included -$68k in "other income" and an additional $30k+ in "other taxes". I didn't enter anything like that. It won't tell me where the numbers are coming from or how to fix it. Won't even take me to the page. Says I need to pay for the expert help, which seems ridiculous. What can I do???

I recommend navigating to the Income section in TurboTax Online to view your input.  Rest assured, you do not have to pay an expert for help to figure this out.

You can get to the other income entry section by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account and open or continue your return.
  2. From the left menu, select Federal, and then select Income.
  3. On the Your income and expenses page, review any categories that have 2025 amounts by choosing Review next to them.
  4. Scroll down and pay particular attention to the categories Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C, Other Common Income, and Less Common Income.

Also, you can view Schedule 1 of your Form 1040 by following these steps:

  1. On the left panel, choose the Tax-Tools drop down menu and select Tools.
  2. Click on the View Tax Summary link.
  3. On the left panel, choose Preview my 1040.
  4. Scroll down to view Schedule 1.  There should be a description for any income reported.
