Turbo Tax says I cant claim my daughter as a dependent because she makes more than 4,700 yr. She lives at home due to high rental cost. shouldn't I be able to claim her?

Sorry that's the rule.  Unless she is under 24 AND a full time student.

Your child must meet the following criteria to be claimed as a dependent.

 

As a qualifying child:

 

  • The child must be related to you. 
  • The child can’t be claimed as a dependent by someone else. 
  • The child must be a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident. 
  • If the child is married, they can’t file a joint return with their spouse. 
  • The child must be under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students). 
    • No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children. 
  • The child must have lived with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply). 
  • The child didn't provide more than half of their own support for the year. 

 

If you child doesn't qualify as your qualifying child, you may be able to claim them as a qualifying relative. The following questions must be true.

 

  • Your child can’t be claimed as a dependent by someone else. 
  • Your child must be a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident. 
  • If your child is married, they can’t file a joint return with their spouse
  • Your child must live with you all year.
  • They can’t have more than $4,700 income in 2023.
  • You must provide more than half of your child's total support for the year.
