Question

Turbo Tax just lost my entire file when I was almost done

I had checked for errors and fixed three and was clearly almost done and ready to submit when TurboTax went somewhere funny - I thought it was stuck - then when I got out of that place there was no tax data entered. I've spent days and days. How can it lose everything when I'm almost done?

I did not do a TurboTax update. Some people lost their TurboTax files after an update to the software. I did not do that.

It said I had a few errors, and I fixed them, then wham, it went somewhere funny and my data vanished

NOT OK!!!

Help!

Are you using the Mac version or the Windows PC version?

Had you previously saved the tax data file before, i.e., after other sessions when working on it, or had it never been saved?

The default location of the *.tax2025 data file (at least in the Windows version) is in the Documents\TurboTax folder.   Look there first, then search your entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2025 and be sure to look in the Recycle Bin\Trash and any backup devices or cloud backup.

in the Windows version, there should be a file in the default folder c:\users\user--name\documents\turbotax that starts with a ~. that's a backup file created when you open the file. You may be able to open it by double-clicking on it.

this is the same folder where the normal file xxxxxxx.tax2025 should be.  don't know what happened, but both may be corrupt. Turbotax does not have a copy of your file when you use the desktop app. The only files are on your computer.
