Question

Turbo tax charged me $365v to do my 2019 taxes and I see that they said they efiled them. The IRS says they didn't get them. Why can't I talk to someone or find out?

First, YOU efiled it (not TT).  Then it sits on TT's servers until the IRS comes and pulls it.  The IRS either accepts or rejects it for processing, and TT send sends an email telling you if it was Accepted or Rejected.  Did you get such an email?  After that, TT gets no further updates from the IRS.

But the IRS is still way behind in processing 2019 returns.  See this:

The IRS is behind on 2019 taxes due to COVID-19.  TurboTax will only be able to see if your efile was accepted.  TurboTax cannot tell you what is in the IRS records after that.  But the IRS can.  You can contact them by phone.

The number to reach them is 800-829-1040.  The best time of day to call is 8:00 AM.  They are available Monday through

    Friday from 7:00 AM - 7 PM.

Get to a live person fastest: Press 1 for English, then press 2 for Personal Income Taxes, and then push 1, then 3, then 2, then 0# when it asks for your social security number, then 2.  Using #0 for your social security number confuses the phone system and it transfers you to a person, instead of more numbers to punch in.
