My rejection says to review the "description field" to identify which dependent is causing the rejection.  Where do I find the "description field"? I can't find it.

Did you claim more than one dependent?   Look carefully at the rejection notice----there will be a "01" "02" etc in the notice.  Then look at the dependents as shown on your Form 1040.   01 is the first name, 02 is the 2nd one, etc. etc.   That way you will know which dependent's SSN was used already on a return.  Do you have any teenagers or students who may have filed their own tax return and did not say they could be claimed as dependent?

But where is the description field for me to see the number of the dependent causing the problem.  I don't see the description field.  The notice says to review the description field.

Your dependents are shown on your tax return.  The one on the top line of dependents is 1.  Next one is 2, and so on.   Or-----as I mentioned ----do you have any teenagers or students who filed a tax return of their own?   Do you have a child who had any sort of job?   ASK them if they filed a tax return and then find out if they made the VERY common error of saying no one can claim them as a dependent.

Your other remedy for this is to simply file your tax return by mail and have the IRS sort out the duplicate use of the SSN.
