Question

Our returns were rejected because I filed our daughter's incorrectly. I've corrected hers and resent ours and we've been rejected again. How can I fix this?

Our daughter is our dependent and I forgot to check that box on her return. I have amended her return. Ours was rejected again after that correction.

In your situation, you  must include an IP PIN for your daughter.   Per the IRS, if your daughter is under 18 or cannot setup an ID.me account you can submit Form 15227, Application for an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number online. The phone number provided on the form will be used to contact you to verify your identity before an IP PIN can be issued.

Once you get it, see the steps below to enter it on your return:

  1. Open your return
  2. Go to IP PIN
  3. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.
  4. Select Continue, then select Done.
