Question

New Jersey offers a tax credit for recent military veterans (veteran status within the filing year), however it doesn't show up as I'm inputting my information

It's an exemption, not a credit.


At the beginning of the New Jersey interview, after you enter your county and municipality, the next screen says "Other situations that may apply to you," with a list of checkboxes. The first checkbox says "Military Veteran." See the screen shot below. Check the box and click Continue. The next screen will ask you to check a box confirming that you meet the requirements for the exemption. You will then get the exemption on your New Jersey tax return.
