Question

Need to specify two homes for the Residential Clean Energy Credit (Part 1) section of Form 5695

For Form 5695, in the "Residential Clean Energy Credit" (Part 1) section, I have made solar/battery upgrades for two homes this year.  In the IRS instructions, it states the following:  "If you made improvements to more than one home, list the complete address of the home with the greatest total cost in the section above Line 1. Then, attach a statement listing the additional addresses to Form 5695."

In the Windows desktop version of Turbo Tax Deluxe that I am using, it only allows me to specify one address for this "Part 1" section.  (Note, while it likely allows me to specify multiple addresses for the Part 2 "Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit" section, that's not applicable to me).

Further, I can't find any way to attach a statement to Form 5695 as the IRS suggests I need to do.

Since there are likely quite a few people in this situation this year, could you simply add a question allowing us to specify some additional addresses and then auto-generate the statement needing to be attached to Form 5695?  I saw in another post that in certain areas, you can auto-generate those statements.

In the absence of this solution I'm requesting, what can I do?

Thanks

As long as both homes are used by you as a residence, then you can claim the credit following these steps:

    1. Use the highest cost residence for the address
    2. combine the cost for both homes
    3. in Forms mode, select Open Form
    4. Choose federal and select blank form
    5. Enter the second address there along with the reference and ignore the column for a dollar figure.

I went through the review without an issue but I am obviously not going to e-file with a form not related to my return. I can only hope that yours will e-file as expected. Otherwise, you would need to mail it in.

Reference: About Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits: You may be able to take the credits if you made energy saving improvements to your home located in the United States in 2025.

@AmyC  Thanks so much for the solution - I found the blank form you referred to and will give it a shot when I'm ready to try e-filing.  Thanks again.
