This is a common issue because Indiana state returns pull dependent data directly from the Federal section. If you only deleted her in the Indiana section, the software may still be "ghosting" her information because she still exists on your Federal return.

The rejection happens because your child’s Social Security Number (SSN) is already locked in the system for this tax year. You must remove her from the primary source of the data:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account and select Fix my return.
  2. Select My Info from the left-hand menu.
  3. Find your daughter’s name in the Dependents section and select the Trash can icon to completely remove her.
  4. Continue through the screens to confirm her removal.

If the error persists after she is gone from Federal, the state return is likely holding onto a corrupted data fragment. You should delete the Indiana return and start it fresh:

  1. In the left-hand menu, select Tax Tools then Tools.
  2. Select Delete a form.
  3. Find the Indiana Individual Return (and any associated Indiana schedules) and click Delete next to them.
  4. Select the State tab and re-add Indiana. Since your Federal is now corrected, it will pull the updated data without your daughter.
