Question

My spouse & I are filing jointly for the 1st time this year. I applied for an extension. Does he need to file for a separate extension or does mine cover his?

No, he doesn't need to apply for a separate extension.  When filing jointly, the information of the primary taxpayer (the person listed first on the return) should be used.
