My return’s amount was withdrawn instead of deposited. Why did this happen?

I did all the steps correctly and I did this for free. So why am I getting my return’s amount withdrawn?

Withdrawn by who----the IRS? Did you mistake a refund for an amount of tax due? What is on line 35a of your Form 1040? Line 37? Did you get confused and tell the IRS to do a direct debit of tax due that was on line 37?

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

until today it said that my return was calculated to be $425, when I wake up today I’m dragged $455 into the negative because of the amount and an overdraft fee.I log in today and it says that my taxes owed was $425. It asked for my information for a direct deposit of my refund so I provided it.

The IRS might be able to help with your concerns. The withdrawal of funds from your account would be from the IRS. You will need to contact the IRS for further resolution as TurboTax did not make those adjustments to your bank account. Use this link to check your refund status with the IRS: Where Is My Refund? You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to get answers to your federal tax questions 24 hours a day.

It sounds like you had a balance due and selected to have the money withdrawn from your bank account instead of a refund deposited. If you had a balance due of $425.00 and scheduled the payment with not enough funds to cover it, then you would have NSF charges.
