Question

My return has been rejected because I haven't included a 1095 a form. I didn't have insurance through the marketplace in 2021. I had insurance through work. What to do

The link here has been removed. Is there a way to sign up for updates once this issue is resolved?

If the IRS rejected the return for a missing 1095-A then check with the ACA to see if you had one issued in error or maybe it covered a small part of the beginning of 2021 ... https://www.healthcare.gov/

They make the form available online  way before the forms come in the mail ... I still have not seen any of these forms yet ... they have until Monday to put them in the post so you may not get it in the mail until sometime in Feb.

My taxes were rejected due to no 1095A form but I called marketplace and I don’t have a 1095A form at all they confirmed it but turbo tax is not allowing me to click no I did not receive 1095A form which is holding me back filing my taxes. I don’t know what to do cause it won’t let me change it. I’ve been trying all week. I don’t want to refile and rejected again.

Has this issue been corrected?

If I don't have a 1095-A, then I should not enter any data in Turbo Tax so that the IRS will not reject my return.

I have NEVER purchased insurance from the ACA,  so there should not be any record of that with the IRS.  If the glitch is in Turbo Tax's software, then it needs to be fixed.

So, has this issued been corrected?

I am having the same issue. My taxes have been rejected by the IRS 4 times today. Several representatives from Turbotax have helped me fix the issue by going to the failed tax, under Federal/Deduction and Credits/Medical and selecting there that I do not have or will receive a 1095-A. This should fix the issue, but it does not! I noticed that after you select NOT, and continue, at the going when going back to review the change took effect, it still in YES. There is a bug here I am thinking, the form get defaulted to YES all the time. This is really annoying. I will be taking my business with a traditional accountant I guess.

So I was advised that even though there is a glitch in the system and if you don’t have a 1095 still put a little information you should put 0 in the marketplace Identifier box and policy number box then put $1 in the 3 January boxes. I did this and was accepted.

Then it made you pick a premium plan it will not allow you to do it with the free edition.

I'm having the exact same issue. I can't even erase and start over. May have to use another company such as tax act.

If you enter $1 to each line of form 1095-A you can submit you income tax.

None of this helps. It is now July 2023, and nothing has worked. I have reached out to Marketplace six times since March 2023. Each time  I spend 45 minutes being passed around to customer service agents. Twice they indicated they mailed out the form I needed. I have never received the form to fix the no 1095-A issue. I am not going to mail in my taxes. I paid the TurboTax fee back in April before the deadline. Money was wasted on 2022 tax filing after using TurboTax for 20 years.

The reject error F8962-070 is an indication that someone shown on your tax return (taxpayer, spouse, or a dependent) is in the IRS database as having been covered by Marketplace insurance at some point during 2021, and Form 1095-A is required to be entered for that Marketplace insurance.

If you do not have or did not think you needed Form 1095-A, please contact your state's Marketplace insurance to confirm whether anyone in your household was covered.  Once you can confirm this, please come back and share that information here.

The following TurboTax help article will give you further steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.  It also contains links to use to contact the Marketplace to confirm coverage for members of your household.

How do I fix e-file reject F8962-070?

This is very very irritating, especially seeing that TurboTax knew about this in January.

The TT representative is telling me to basically fill out a fake 1095-A and that is the only way to get around this... there is no way that is the resolution. Can someone please help?!

If your return is rejecting, it is due to the IRS believing the form should be in there. You can:

  • Contact  Healthcare.gov  and see if you are in their files and what they have,
  • you can mail your return with tracking for your safety and proof of filing, or
  • you can do the fake 1095-A.

You are right that something has to come of the IRS thinking you have it when you don't. It may be you had marketplace in a prior year and the IRS is behind in updating their system.

@DaveF1006 gave these directions for a fake 1095-A.

You can try to enter $1 for the 1095.  This will not affect anything on your return, but having the form there may get the IRS to accept your return.  To do this take the following steps:

  • Click Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down to Medical and Click Show More
  • Click Start or Revisit next to the ACA
  • As you walk through the questions, you will be asked if you received a 1095-A.  If you did NOT, click YES.
  • Enter 0's for the Marketplace identifier and Policy number.
  • Enter $1 for January monthly premium amount and SLCSP
  • Walk through to the end and submit your return.

Yup! Same thing is happening to me. There is a glitch in their system, I went to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Medical > Affordable Cares Act and then selected "No I did not receive a 1095 A Form." continued through the process. Went back to check if it corrected & the button is now clicked to "Yes I received a 1095 A form." I've tried changing it to NO 100x it won't stay keeps going back to yes. Therefore it's rejecting my taxes. Turbotax needs to fix this ASAP!!!

Agreed!!

We should not have to create any type of dummy form to get the  IRS to accept our returns!!!

Thank you!! I have never had health insurance through ACA! It’s still rejecting it & the glitch is changing it back to “Yes I have a 1095” how do I create the dummy form???

So, I tried to file my taxes and got the same message. However, I called the marketplace and they actually have no records of me having a 1095 A form. What do I do?

Someone was saying fill out a dummy form, just so the system would let it through. But idk how to do that, so I ended up filing through Taxact.com

Hi- so just a friendly warning for all... I followed the "turbo tax expert's" advice and entered zeros on the 1095-A form because it would NOT let me delete it. I verified twice with marketplace and they confirmed I did NOT have any coverage in 2021. I have been on my employer's health insurance for years. My return was accepted. I was happy until yesterday, I received a letter in the mail from the IRS requesting I send a 1095-A form because it was not properly filled out. So now I'm back and forth with the IRS on this. Turbotax- I will not be using your services again. I followed your instructions and now I'm fighting with the IRS over a ridiculous issue that I have no control over.

Do not follow that advice entering zeros on the 1095-A form. Use a different platform to file your taxes.

Just because you could circumvent the IRS  rejection to get the return efiled doesn't mean the IRS will not be asking about this situation later.  You must now  resolve this situation you avoided earlier... this was not a TT error... it is the IRS that is confused.  So since the IRS believes you had ACA insurance and was issued a 1095-A then you have to prove them wrong.  Respond to the notification with some kind of proof that you did not have ACA insurance at anytime during the year ... contact the ACA and get to the bottom  of this situation.  www.healthcare.gov
